The Indore city chapter of the ISG
Registered as Gastroenterology Club of Indore and known to its members as Gut Club Indore, the chapter is the local home of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology in Indore and the surrounding Malwa region.
Preamble
Why a city chapter matters
Gastroenterology in India has grown quickly. Endoscopic technique, hepatology, therapeutic intervention, GI oncology and transplant medicine have all moved a long way in a short time. National conferences carry that knowledge forward, but they happen once or twice a year and they are not where day to day clinical habits are actually formed.
Habits are formed locally, in the conversations clinicians have with each other between cases. A city chapter puts structure around those conversations. It gives the specialists of one city a standing reason to meet, to present what they are seeing, to disagree in good faith, and to leave with something they can use in clinic the following week.
Indore justifies that structure. It is the largest city in Madhya Pradesh, a referral point for a very wide catchment, and home to a growing number of gastroenterologists, hepatologists, endoscopists and GI surgeons working across teaching hospitals, corporate hospitals and private practice. Gastroenterology Club of Indore was formed so that this group functions as a community rather than a set of separate practices.

Objectives
What the chapter sets out to do
Build a genuine peer forum
Create a setting where difficult cases can be presented honestly, where second opinions are easy to obtain, and where clinicians from different institutions know each other well enough to refer and collaborate.
Support teaching and training
Give postgraduates, DM and DNB trainees and early career specialists a platform to present, to be questioned constructively, and to learn from senior clinicians practising in the same city.
Raise public awareness
Communicate clearly to the public about digestive and liver health, including prevention, alarm symptoms, viral hepatitis, fatty liver disease and the value of timely screening.
Encourage local research
Support audit, case series and collaborative work drawn from the clinical volume Indore already handles, so that regional experience contributes to the wider literature.
Represent the city nationally
Act as the point of contact between clinicians in Indore and the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, and carry the chapter's work into the national academic calendar.

The Indian Society of Gastroenterology
The Indian Society of Gastroenterology, ISG, is the national professional body for the specialty in India. It publishes its aim as promoting awareness of gastrointestinal and hepatic disorders among both the public and healthcare professionals, and raising the standard of education, training and care in gastroenterology across the country.
ISG describes itself as a national society with over 4,000 members and 20 state chapters, covering gastroenterologists, hepatologists, endoscopists, GI surgeons and allied professionals. It runs the annual ISGCON conference, academic programmes for young clinicians, and a set of national awards and orations.
Gastroenterology Club of Indore operates as the Indore city chapter within that structure, alongside the ISG Madhya Pradesh state chapter.
