The chapter

A city chapter with a clear purpose

Indore is the largest city in Madhya Pradesh and one of central India's busiest centres for tertiary medical care. Its hospitals, teaching institutions and private practices handle a very large volume of digestive and liver disease every week, from common acid peptic disorders to complex hepatobiliary and pancreatic work.

Gastroenterology Club of Indore exists so that the clinicians doing that work have a regular, disciplined place to meet. The chapter runs academic sessions, discusses real cases from local practice, invites visiting faculty, and gives postgraduates and early career specialists a room where they can ask questions and present their own material.

The chapter is registered as Gastroenterology Club of Indore, is known informally as Gut Club Indore, and functions as the Indore city chapter of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, the national body for the specialty in India.

What we do

Three things the chapter works on

Everything the chapter organises falls into one of these areas. The format changes through the year, the intent does not.

Continuing academic education

Regular clinical meetings, guest lectures and updates on guidelines, endoscopy technique, hepatology and GI imaging, so that practice in Indore keeps pace with national and international standards.

Case based peer discussion

Difficult and instructive cases from local hospitals presented and debated among peers. This is where diagnostic reasoning gets tested and where trainees learn how experienced clinicians actually think.

Public awareness of gut health

Outreach on digestive and liver disease for the wider public in Indore, covering prevention, early warning signs, liver disease, cancer screening and when a person genuinely needs to see a specialist.

National network

One city chapter, one national community

The Indian Society of Gastroenterology connects specialists across the country. Gastroenterology Club of Indore is how that network reaches clinicians and patients in Indore.
